Boston Business Journal - 146 Quenames Road, Chilmark

Posted on July 15, 2021 by Aubrey Ashmun

A 60-acre farm with views of the Atlantic Ocean on Martha’s Vineyard could set a record price for the island town of Chilmark.

The property at 146 Quenames Road is one of the largest lots in the rural town near the Vineyard’s western tip, known for its hilly, agricultural landscape and the fishing village of Menemsha. It's also a popular place for private getaways, including Blue Heron Farm just up the road, where the Obama family vacationed a few times.

Blue Heron Farm has set the high mark for Chilmark sales, having sold in 2011 for $22.4 million. The Quenames Road property aims to beat that with a list price of $26.5 million, according to the Sotheby’s office listing the home.

The Quenames Road site, located down a long private drive, is quintessential Chilmark, with acres of open farmland — it has been farmed organically for years — stretching between the main home and the Atlantic on the Vineyard’s south coast. The property includes roughly 800 feet of direct oceanfront land.

The home includes a main house, a farmhouse and a bunk house. Among them are nine bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and three half-baths, and more than 6,700 square feet of living space.
